This week Missy E did not entertain herself blowing Puff-Puffs. Instead, we had to take a pre-class break at the park. Get her energized to flourish. What do you wear to band practise? Why the awesome t-shirt that your cousing made you of course. Her teacher almost wanted one herself.

This past Saturday was her second parade of the season. She did really well but was a bit overwhelmed at times because of the sheer size of the crowd. Once out of her kilt and wool socks, and ice cream in hand she was back to her old self talking about how much fun she had. Ah, the power of ice cream!

This morning after picking up Glenn’s mom we headed out to the first band parad of the year. Elspeth was pretty excited. We have spent the last week practising walking beside someone so as to avoid being run over by the other band members. She did pretty good with it this morning so I suppose the practise paid off. Anyways, the band led the whole parade today which is pretty awesome. I got to walk the whole parade root (just in case) and she did really well. A few mistakes in her rhythms but overall pretty darn good! By the end of the parade she was running with sweat but perked right up with some water and ginger snaps.

Then it was off to the fair to check out the exhibits. They had the coolest lint creatures made from dryer lint. Very creative. One looked like a lizard and another an alien. Another fair highlight was seeing the AquaDogs in action. Everytime they splashed into the pool I felt so jealous as we stood there being hot. Top the whole thing off with an ice cream for the road it was a delightful day.

Okay, so I am exhausted after a full day’s work, ukulele lesson and then two hours at the fun fair but the girls had fun hanging with friends. Thank goodness it didn’t get quite as hot as forecasted.

I am going to let the pictures tell the story but hope that everyone got to get out and enjoy some sunshine this past weekend. After two busy days, Victoria Day moved at a slower pace…. a gardening pace. We got the trees trimmed, weeds pulled and the garden planted. Now comes the waiting. Fingers crossed that we will have lots of goodies to harvest.

This weekend was full of birthday fun – a friend’s bat mitzvah as well as our springtime family birthday celebration which was made that much more special because our neice is turning 16! Â Time really does fly.
The girls were super excited to be able to dress up for the bat mitzvah. Â New dresses and shoes = excitement. Â They clean up pretty nicely! Â Boy did they have a good time dancing, chatting, eating candy. Â Us? Â We had a blast too. Â It was nice to get out and meet some new people. Plus, it is always nice to get to watch your kids looking simply happy.

The next day began with us getting ready for my brother’s family to arrive (my parents had arrived the night before). Â After a bit of a visit it was off for Teppenyaki….mmmmm. Â Lunch and a show AND all gluten free for me! Â The kids got a kick out of watching their cousin’s see the food set a flame for the very first time. Â Then it was back home for some ice cream cake and presents. Â With 6 spring birthdays in the family this is really the easiest way to fit in all of the spring birthdays. Â We also managed to squeeze in a family portrait.
This year Glenn got to celebrate his birthday over four days (now that is a lot of celebrating!). His actual birthday was spent enjoying a homemade dinner with his girls – steak, portabello with garlic and truffle cheese and sponge with fruit and cream. To my delight, both girls were eager to make something special for their Baba and pitched in to help with dinner. The results were delicious. Presents? Well, beer, steak, truffle cheese and new jeans of course.

Three days later it was time to celebrate with some of the extended family. We were lucky to be able to have Tim, Laura and Mom join us for burgers and cake. Nothing fancy but definetely a relaxed good time with family.
A sad yet proud day. Â Our Elspeth’s last Spark meeting has arrived. Â She has really enjoyed her last two years and is looking forward to all of the new adventures that Brownies will bring. Â In fact, she is already planning out how she will earn all of the available patches (some big plans). Â Enjoy the photos below as they showcase her final meeting.
